Terms & Conditions

We believe that our store policies should be fair, clear and transparent. Below you’ll find a list of all our policies. If you can’t find the information you’re looking for - please contact us.

About us

In these Terms, references to “The Bottleneck” “we” or “us” are to The Bottleneck of 7-9 Charlotte Street, Broadstairs, Kent CT10 1LR.

Contract creation

The placing of an order on our website does not constitute a contract. For the avoidance of doubt, a contract is not formed at the point in time that payment has been taken from you by The Bottleneck nor at the point when you receive an email confirmation from us. We reserve the right to cancel or amend your order, this may be due to:

  • The product(s) you ordered being unavailable from stock

  • Our inability to obtain authorisation for your payment

  • Your inability to prove that you are aged over 18

  • The identification of a pricing or product description error on our website

  • The repeated or fraudulent use of vouchers or promotional codes

Pricing and Cases

All prices are quoted in pounds sterling, and may be per bottle or per case, as marked. The prices include UK duty and VAT, unless otherwise specified. Any delivery charges are additional, unless otherwise specified.

We endeavour to ensure that all pricing information on our website is accurate. Occasionally an error may occur and products may be incorrectly priced. In the event that a product you have ordered is listed at an incorrect price, we will contact you by phone or email before despatching your products asking you to confirm if you still wish to proceed with your order at the correct price or cancel your order.

When ordering a pre-mixed case, please note that image is representative of typical case contents but these contents are subject to change due to stock levels or to most accurately reflect the current bestsellers or popular new products in our physical store.

We reserve the right to alter prices without notice. We also reserve the right to terminate any special offer at any time, without notice.

All products and services are subject to availability. We are a boutique wine store and not a large warehouse.

Occasionally, we have to substitute wines for another vintage or an alternative wine of equal or greater value. We will always choose carefully and make sure that you will be happy with your order. By placing an order on this website, you agree to trust our judgement and accept any substitutions if they need to be made. While we will try to contact you in advance to let you know of any changes to your order, at busy times this may not always be possible.

We deliver across mainland UK via courier. Various delivery times are available for you to select when you place an order. We also offer local delivery and an in-store click & collect service. Details of options available are shown on the product page. We reserve the right to restrict deliveries or to withdraw services to individual customers' addresses if you are repeatedly unavailable to take delivery of your order or in other exceptional circumstances.

Our mainland UK deliveries are made by a third party courier. Some standard deliveries do not require a signature. If you are out, the delivery driver may be able to leave your order for you in accordance with the instructions that you give us in the comments section when you place your order, for example, in a safe place or to a neighbour. If this is not possible, a card will be posted through your letterbox with instructions on how to arrange re-delivery.

Please keep your delivery note and all packaging, notify us immediately if any of the order is missing or damaged.

Cancellations, Replacements and Refunds

All orders are processed the next working day. If you wish to cancel, you must do so before your order is packaged and dispatched. Once products are dispatched, delivered or collected, no refunds or exchanges are offered unless those products are damaged or delivered in error.‘Corked’ bottles will not be considered to be eligible for refund or exchange.

All information (including credit card details) is sent and received using up-to-date secure e-commerce software created by Wix and processed via Square and PayPal. The website holds an SSL certificate and these payment gateways have industry leading levels of security and data protection.

Voucher Codes

Promotional codes are to be used in accordance with fair use, as determined by us. If we feel that a promotional code is being abused, we reserve the right to invalidate that promo code and cancel any orders we feel necessary.

Gift vouchers are non-transferable, may not be sold at auction and have no cash alternative. Where a voucher is used in breach of these conditions, we reserve the right to refuse to supply products to you or to make a charge equivalent to the value of the voucher against the payment card used on the contravening order or take steps to redeem the products as we deem appropriate.

Wines purchased from us are for the customer's own use only (which may include their use as gifts for third parties). Wines should not be re-sold or otherwise used for commercial purposes.

If you are a corporate partner or would like to talk to us about commercial opportunities, please contact us.

Warnings, risks and storage conditions

You should be aware of the following risks and warnings in respect of our products:

  • Alcohol should be consumed in moderation

  • A case of wine can be heavy – please take care when lifting any of our products.

  • If you are concerned about the weight of your delivery, we would advise you to transfer the bottles 1 or 2 at a time.

  • Wine, particularly, red wine may cause staining if spilt. Sparkling wines and champagnes can be volatile due to the build-up of gasses in the bottles. Please take extra care when opening these bottles.

The correct storage of wine is of vital importance. We suggest that you should store bottles horizontally, at a stable, cool temperature, out of direct light and in an atmosphere which has some moisture in order to avoid the drying out of corks. In most cases, wine should be subject to as little movement as possible.
