Pierre Naigeon Nuits-Saints-Georges
The Domaine Pierre Naigeon Les Herbeux Nuits-St-Georges 2017 vintage is a well flavoured red wine with red fruit aromas and a hint of spice. Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Burgundy area of France, this wine is produced without fining or filtration.
In fact, the winemaker prefers non-interventionist winemaking and natural farming without the use of herbicides, artificial fertilisers or pesticides. Instead, focusing on allowing the natural beauty of the region to show through in the taste of the wine. It's a formula that works and is becoming increasingly popular. This vineyard has been officially recognised as an organic vineyard since 2019 but has been using organic farming methods for many years.
The 2017 is a very good vintage with wonderful expression. Made from grapes grown on a tiny plot of just over a quarter of a hectare in the vineyard of 'Les Herbeux'. The low-yielding vines face the sunrise and are grown at the foot of gently sloping hill. The soils here are a combination of white limestone which imparts a mineral character and
deep clay which bring a level of depth to the wine.
We find this particular red wine to be opulent and indulgent, with notes of strawberry, vanilla and liquorice. Comforting, refined and a real taste of Central France. This wine will drink well now and should be first decanted for optimum enjoyment but will age well in the bottle to be enjoyed 2025-2035.
